Moving Checklist – Things That Need To Be Done Before Moving
Moving from an old place to a new one can be a daunting task. There is so much to be done to ensure a successful relocation. Along side the all the expenses and goodbye’s you need to say to your neighbors. However, you can lessen the hassle of moving by following this checklist that is a moving timeline at the same time. This way, you know what to do and when to do it.
1 Month Before Moving
You still have a lot of time on your hands but here are the tasks that you need to do one month before moving: Estimate all the possible expenses so you can prepare for them – include trucking services or a Nevada moving company that will make your job easier. Secure all records including medical records that come from doctors from the area you are living. Include school records and financial records as well. You don’t know when you might need them in the future. Get rid of stuff you don’t need. You can do this in two ways; you can either give your old stuff away as parting presents or you can have a garage sale to generate extra cash. Shop for packing supplies like boxes, tape, newspapers and markers. Update your information with companies like banks, print media subscriptions and insurance companies with your new address.
3 Weeks Before Moving
If you have children, make sure arrangements with new schools are already set. Utilities should be ready upon your arrival especially water, electricity and the internet. Register your car if necessary.
2 Weeks Before Moving
Close or transfer your bank account somewhere near your new residence. Dispose all items that are flammable and corrosive. Arrange disconnection of utilities at your old home so you don’t incur unnecessary charges. If you need someone to take care of the kids on the moving day, plan how you are going to do that now. Are any borrowed items such as DVD’s, books from the library or any things from the neighbors returned? Start packing things and don’t forget to label boxes.
1 Week Before Moving
If you have a pending traveler’s check, pick it up now. Make sure safety deposit boxes are empty. Tools that have oil must be drained such as lawn mowers and other gardening tools. Pack prescriptions medicine where it is handy. List necessary numbers you might need; that of the moving company or the rental truck company and those of friends and family near your new residence as you might need their assistance upon your arrival.
1 Day Before Moving
Defrost the refrigerator and make sure it is clean. Secure all appliances so nothing gets damaged when moving. If the trip will take long, have an extra suitcase with one day worth of clothes and toiletries. Follow up once more on every one involved in the moving process.
On The Moving Day
Beds should not have anything on them and curtains and rods should be packed. Sweep the house one last time to see if there are any items left. Make sure everything is locked.Check for the best route to your new house.
As you can see, it is quite simple to move. Print this list and place it somewhere accessible and cross out or highlight everything that has been done. Moving will be smooth and hassle free for sure!
