A Checklist of Things to do When Relocating
When you are relocating, whether it is across town, across the state, or across the county, there are always so many things that you have to remember to do. This includes things like where you were living and where you are relocating to. When you know that you are moving, you should start a checklist of things that have to be done. Put the checklist on a clipboard and hang it where you can find it or purchase a notebook to make the list in. No matter what you put it in, make sure that you know where it is so you can mark off the things you have done.
Here are some of the things that should be on your checklist.
Get moving quotes from 3-5 different moving companies. Compare the prices and offered services and based on that select a mover that is best for you.
Change of address–this is something that should be done before moving day. You will have to do a change of address with the post office, your bank, credit cards, insurance company, any magazine subscriptions, etc.
Contact your bank–you will need to get in touch with your back and have them transfer your account to one of the branches where you are moving as soon as possible. If your bank does not have a branch where you are moving you will have to close out the one account and reopen one where you are moving.
All services–this includes your phone company, water, electricity, and cable all need to be disconnected and reconnected where you are going to move to. You should do this as far in advance as you can to avoid having any disruptions in service or paying for the service longer than you have to where you use to live.
Medical and school records–this is especially true if you are moving on the weekend. You will need to do this during the week and have the offices transfer all the records to the new doctor and the new school. You should also get copies of the school records so you can register the children before you move, just in case they do not get the transferred records.
Family pet–you will need to make sure that you have made transportation arrangements for your pet and have copies of their medical records, especially their shot records.
Packing boxes–mark the boxes as where they go for easier identification.
These are just some of the many things that you will have to do before you move and after you arrive at your new place.
